Sami Reindeer Experience (pre-winter tour)
Do you want to meet some reindeer in the autumn and beginning of winter? We are now offering a pre-winter tour with reindeer in the Sami village of Rávttas outside Kiruna. Here you will encounter Sami people, feed the reindeer, take a short walk with the reindeer and learn how to throw the lasso Sami style. We offer this tour on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from November 6, 2025 – December 5, 2025.
We will take you to the village of Rávttas, the home of several Sami families with reindeer in the area. You will get some insight in the traditional life of the mountain Sami in this fantastic landscape classified as Natura2000 by the EU. The rich biodiversity in the area is a prerequisite for reindeer and other animals like the moose. Here our ancestors lived as nomads and eventually built small houses near the railroad in the 1950's.
In the wintertime we feed some of our reindeer in a corral. We hope to bring home a few a little earlier than usual. Our old tame reindeer will eat from your hand and you can let yourself be mesmerized by the reindeer's big, beautiful eyes. You can also learn how to throw the lasso like a reindeer herder. If you want, you can walk around with one of the reindeer on a leash.
After your reindeer experience we will enjoy a meal with ecological, smoked and fried reindeer meat (suovas), bread and coffee in the hut. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and listen to stories as we relax around the fire.
N.B. We can only drive the reindeer sled when there is enough snow on the ground... this is a pre-winter tour!

Pick up from Kiruna tourist office or your hotel in the new city centre in Kiruna
at 10:00 am
N.B. We cannot pick you up from Jukkasjärvi, Altajärvi, Poikkijärvi or any other location outside Kiruna! Please inform us if you are driving your own car and don't need to be picked up.
